Stamp Appeal - latest update

Yesterday, 7th Feb.'24, we handed in the latest batch of stamps to the Church of Scotland Stamp Appeal - see the photo. This was possible because of generous people taking the time to carefully cut stamps from their mail leaving an inch margin all the way round (or just giving us the whole envelope) so that the Appeal volunteers can resell them to stamp collectors. Each year they make between £2,000 & £4,000 for the overseas charity they are supporting. 'Festival of LIGHT' - community Christmas Tree exhibition

over week before Christmas, we had 8 or 9 fully lit & baubled trees in the church (still there to view on Sundays till 12th Night), donated by local Youth & Community to our 'Festival of Light'. They arrived from Youth groups which meet in the church halls, such as Rainbows, Brownies, Guides & Boys' Brigade (& Girls Association to give them their full name), Muirhouse Housing Association, Sassy Women' (at Muirhouse Community Centre), Craigroyston Primary School, NEA 'Create' group, plus a mystery one just left for us to put up. EDINBURGH's CHRISTMAS CAROL EVENT, 3rd Dec., 2pm

Every year there is a city-centre Christmas Carol singing event, usually associated with the large Nativity scene or the lights being switched on. This year the event will be at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens, Sunday 3rd Dec., 2pm-4pm. Lots of favourite carols, with the singing helped along with some church choirs and the always wonderful Salvation Army band. The event is free & doesn't need booking- just turn up and enjoy yourself!

It is time for the posters to go out round the community to let people know that SATURDAY 18th Nov. is the date of the the pre-Christmas Sale we call "The Autumn Fair". There will be the usual stalls (except hot rolls, sorry): * Nearly New goods - clothes, bags, shoes, etc; * Bric-a-brac; * new Christmas presents; * books / dvds / cds; * that old favourite, 'Tombola'; + the start of sales of tickets for "The Grand Raffle", and the Christmas Hampers, [with the draw after the service which marks the 1st Sunday in Advent, 3rd December, sometime after 12:15 in the church hall]. There will also be tea, coffee, juice etc. Admission is 30p for adults, accompanied children come free.

The Young Folk celebrate the Coronation

The young people of the Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association, who meet on a Monday evening in school term, scratched their heads about how to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. The ideas came flooding out of their heads and onto the cardboard, which they then coloured in and put back on their heads - CROWNS. Great ideas kids, called 'using your head'.
